What I learnt from my dogs

Hey Life Warriors!

This week we won’t have workouts or nutrition either, but instead we’ll share something much more valuable: tips to make you happier!!! 😉 I would like to share with you today what I learnt from my dogs: Jay and Danko, my furriest and most faithful friends

  • Be grateful for what you have
If you have a dog, you will have noticed that whatever you put in their bowl, they devour it. Whether it’s the dog food they eat day after day, or those wonderful leftovers that taste SO great, just grab their bowl and they will immediately sit in front of you, wagging their tails with all the excitement in the World. You will also have noticed that if they have a soft bed, they love to lie on it, but if they have to lie on the floor to be next to you, they have no problem doing so.
Let’s try to be easy to please and grateful for what we have, as our furry friends do!
  • Enjoy the moment
Dogs’ favourite time is undoubtedly walk time. They enjoy every minute that you have them outdoors, smelling things, running around… Unfortunately we don’t always have time to give them long walks, sometimes we can only take them out for a few minutes. However, they enjoy a long walk as much as a short walk, and the key to this enjoyment is their lack of expectations.
A human being would spend all day thinking “Is today a long walk or a short walk?” “Will he throw me the ball?” “Are we going to the park?” “When are we going to go to the mountains?” And as soon as they take us out, we would start to get stressed thinking about the moment of going back home… wouldn’t we?

Enjoy what you are doing right now, don’t worry about whether the fun will be long or short, and don’t let the expectation of a very good or a very bad tomorrow take you out of the present moment!

  • Be Patient
Our furry friends are infinitely patient. It doesn’t matter how much they want to go for a walk. They will just sit by the door while you put on your coat, drink a glass of water, check your Whatsapp, talk to someone…. You can drag out the ritual as long as you like, they will never get impatient.

Things take time, and they come when they are meant to. Do as your furry friends do and just wait for them to arrive without stressing about it!

  • Accept others as they are
Another great lesson our furry friends teach us is that they love us as we are. They don’t try to change us. It doesn’t matter if we are good or bad owners, if we take them out too much or too little, if we give them beef tenderloin or cheap food… for them we are everything and they give everything to please us.
Look how this dog comforts this child in the Cincinnati hospital. The boy won’t be able to go out and play and run with him, but that doesn’t seem to matter to the dog, does it?

Our dogs follow to the letter that beautiful quote that says: “see the light in others and act as if that light is the only thing you see“.

  • Accept (and love) yourself as you are.
Have you ever seen a dog with a physical handicap? Take a look at these dogs:

Our furry friends play, run, jump… they don’t care if they are lame, if they are missing a paw, if they are fat or skinny, if they are beautiful or ugly… They love and accept themselves as they are, and they try to enjoy everything they can…. Let’s do the same and accept ourselves as we are!!!

As you can see, it is not so difficult to be happier learning from our dogs, we just have to be grateful and easy to please, be patient, enjoy the present moment, accept others as they are and accept and love ourselves as we are. Do you think you can give it a go?
