Why should you eat blueberries? Although our philosophy is not to classify foods as good or bad, it is true that there are foods that have more properties and provide more benefits than others. Intuitively, we tend to think that these foods that are most beneficial to our health usually are less tasty or less appealing, but this is not always true. Blueberries are sweet fruits, with a very good flavor and also provide multiple health benefits.

The blueberry is a blue fruit, native to the United States that grows in clusters. Due to its sweet flavor, it is frequently used to make jams, cakes and other desserts. However, its many benefits beyond its flavor are not as well known.

Blueberries contain a large number of phytochemicals, including abundant anthocyanin pigments . Of its various phytochemicals, anthocyanins are probably the ones that most influence the health functionality of blueberries. Epidemiological studies associate regular and moderate intake of blueberries and/or anthocyanins with reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes, as well as improving weight maintenance and neuroprotection .

You can eat blueberries in many ways: directly, in shakes or smoothies , in salads… plus blueberries do not lose their properties when frozen, so you can eat them all year round!
